Is this the same as a funeral?
It can stand in place of one, follow one, or happen years later. A service of remembrance is whatever gathering helps the people who are grieving.
We are not religious. Is that alright?
Completely. The ceremony reflects the person being remembered and the people in the room, whatever they believe.
