Heart in Hand

Counselling

Grief does not follow a schedule and it does not need fixing. Sometimes what helps most is a room, an hour and a person who can hear all of it.

You might be grieving someone who has died, recently or long ago. You might be living with a terminal diagnosis, or caring for someone who is dying. You might simply be frightened of death and tired of pretending you are not.

Sessions are one to one, unhurried and confidential. There is no set number to sign up for and no right way to grieve. You bring whatever you are carrying and we take it from there.

If a support group would suit you better, or as well, we will say so. The groups are free and you are welcome at both.

What happens

  1. Step 1

    A free first conversation

A short call to hear what is happening and make sure this is the right kind of help.

  2. Step 2

    Your first session

An hour, face to face, at a time that works for you. You set the pace.

  3. Step 3

    As long as it helps

Weekly, fortnightly or now and then. You decide, and you can stop whenever you want.

Questions people ask

How is this different from the support groups?

Counselling is private, one to one time. The groups are shared time with others who are carrying something similar, and they are always free. Many people use both.

Do I need a referral from a GP?

No. You can simply get in touch. No referral is needed for anything we offer.

How soon after a death is too soon?

There is no too soon and no too late. Some people come within days, some after years. Whenever you come is the right time for you.

Start with a conversation that costs nothing.

Phone, at home or somewhere you feel comfortable. You decide what happens after that.
